From Hobby to Handmade Business: How Creating Sparks Was Born
Like many mums, I was looking for something I could do from home while raising my little ones—something just for me, something creative, and maybe even something that could grow into more. After trying a few different crafts, I stumbled across laser cutting, and from the moment I fired up my first design, I was hooked.
There’s something so satisfying about taking a simple sheet of plywood or acrylic and turning it into something useful, fun, and beautiful. Whether it's a Tonie shelf for keeping favourite characters organised or a special piece to brighten up a child’s room, I love knowing that my creations become a part of other families' homes.
Made for Mums, by a Mum
One of the things I love most about running Creating Sparks is that everything I make comes from a real mum’s perspective. I know what it's like to juggle a million things at once, so I design my products with both fun and function in mind. Quick to market, handmade with care, and always made to bring a little extra joy into busy family life.
A Small Business with a Big Heart
Every time I get an order, a lovely message, or see a customer share a photo of my products in their home, it truly makes my day. Creating Sparks wouldn’t exist without the support of other mums and families who choose to shop small, and I can’t tell you how much that means to me.
My daughter (who’s 3.5) gets just as excited about new designs as I do—she loves the idea of helping with the laser machine, and seeing her light up when I show her something new reminds me why I started. This little business isn’t just about making things; it’s about creating moments of joy for families, including my own.
What’s Next?
I’ve got lots of ideas for new designs, including more Tonie shelves in different shapes and themes, and I can't wait to share them with you! If there’s something you'd love to see, let me know—hearing from customers is one of my favourite parts of this journey.
Thank you for supporting my small business, for sharing this adventure with me, and for helping me keep Creating Sparks alive. I can’t wait to keep making more fun, creative pieces for you and your families!
